Oilers soar to second in NHL with strong start

The Edmonton Oilers have made a powerful start to the 2026-27 NHL season, securing five consecutive wins and positioning themselves second in the league standings. Their latest victory came on 14 October, when they defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-1 on the road. Key players such as Connor McDavid and Evan Bouchard have been instrumental in the team's early success.

After six games, the Oilers have accumulated 11 points without a single loss or draw. Their goal difference stands at an impressive +11, reflecting their offensive strength and defensive solidity. The team’s recent form includes wins against the San Jose Sharks, Anaheim Ducks, Seattle Kraken, and Vancouver Canucks, with scores ranging from 3-1 to 9-7.

Looking ahead, Edmonton will host the Utah Mammoth on 16 October in their next NHL fixture. Maintaining their winning momentum will be crucial as they aim to challenge for the top spot in the league. The Oilers, based in the USA, have demonstrated a consistent ability to start strongly, avoiding the slow starts that can hinder championship aspirations.

The Oilers’ current run contrasts with many teams that struggle to find rhythm early in the season. Their combination of offensive firepower and defensive organisation has made them a formidable contender. The upcoming match against Utah Mammoth will test their capacity to sustain this level of performance as the season progresses.
