Mercedes fined after Russell misses F1 Mexico media duties

Mercedes received a €5,000 penalty after George Russell did not participate in his required post-race media obligations following the Formula 1 Mexico Grand Prix. Russell had qualified second but slipped to sixth place by the end of the race at Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, losing positions early on.

Russell’s finish in sixth place came despite a strong starting position, as he dropped four places on the opening lap. This result followed the recent race on 26 September where he competed against Max Verstappen, highlighting a challenging period for the driver and his team in maintaining top positions.

The fine reflects Formula 1’s strict enforcement of media duties, which are part of the drivers’ responsibilities to engage with the press after each Grand Prix. Mercedes, a team with a history of strong performances, now faces the task of managing both on-track results and off-track obligations as the season progresses.

Looking ahead, Russell and Mercedes will prepare for their upcoming races with a focus on improving race strategies and maintaining compliance with all regulatory requirements. The team’s ability to balance competitive performance with media commitments will be crucial in the remaining events of the Formula 1 calendar.
