Mets unlikely to target Phillies corner infielder in offseason
The New York Mets have been linked to a corner infielder from the Philadelphia Phillies as a free agent target, but this move is considered unlikely to make sense this offseason. The speculation comes after the Phillies recently lost 6-2 to the Atlanta Braves on 2 October in Major League Baseball action.
Both teams compete in the National League East Division of MLB. The Mets, based in Queens, New York City, have mixed recent form with two wins and three losses in their last five games, including a 4-6 loss at the Washington Nationals. The Phillies, based in Philadelphia, have also struggled recently, winning two and losing three of their last five games.
The Mets have been active in transfers this season, acquiring Philip Abner from San Francisco on 23 September and Christian Cairo from Philadelphia on 15 September. The Phillies also made a transfer, signing José Urquidy from the Chicago White Sox on 17 September. The Mets will likely focus on other roster moves as they prepare for the next season.
