Thunder and Spurs lead NBA championship futures
The Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs are currently favoured to win the 2026-27 NBA championship as the new season begins. The New York Knicks aim to defend their title, while teams led by stars like LeBron James remain strong contenders.
The Thunder, based in Oklahoma City and part of the Western Conference's Northwest Division, have struggled early with one win and four losses, placing them 14th in the standings. The Spurs, from San Antonio and competing in the Southwest Division, hold a slightly better record with two wins and three losses, sitting 10th overall.
San Antonio recently secured a 126-97 victory over the Sacramento Kings on 17 October, while Oklahoma City has faced several defeats, including a 116-89 loss to the Houston Rockets. The Spurs and Thunder are set to face each other on 21 October, a matchup that could influence their positioning in the league.
The NBA season's opening weeks have seen significant roster changes, with several key players moving teams. This reshuffling adds an element of unpredictability as the campaign progresses towards the playoffs and the championship race intensifies.
